Other Men Who Have Been Accused of Sexual Misconduct

Mark Ruffalo, Patton Oswalt and Kumail Nanjiani are among the Hollywood stars hoping Franken's resignation is the first of many accused of sexual harassment.

Al Franken announced Thursday he would resign from the Senate in the next few weeks, and the Hollywood stars commenting on the decision think it was the right one -- and hopefully just the tip of the iceberg.

"Time to clean house," Marvel star Mark Ruffalo wrote on Twitter, along with a tweet from an organization demanding the resignation of Republican Blake Farenthold, a Texas congressman who allegedly used $84,000 of taypayer money to settle a sexual harassment claim against him.

Six women -- three on the record and three anonymous -- have accused Franken of inappropriately touching them, but the Minnesota senator did not apologize and maintained the allegations against him are either entirely false or exaggerated. During his speech on the Senate floor, Franken added that he finds his resignation ironic since President Donald Trump has numerous sexual assault allegations against him, while Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore faces numerous allegations of dating underage girls when he was in his 30s.

"I of all people am aware that few is some irony in the fact that I am leaving while a man who has bragged on tape about his history of sexual assault sits in the Oval Office, and a man who has repeatedly preyed on young girls campaigns for the Senate with the full support of his party," Franken said.

See what else Hollywood and beyond had to say about Franken's decision to resign.

Sorry, Newt. He’s gotta go. We gotta draw the line. Then we can focus on getting rid of Moore & Trump — for the same reasons. You with me? https://t.co/RHAUYaaUjk

Al Franken resigns. Finally, we are free of all sexual predators in the U.S. government.

al franken is blaming Trump for his being a pervert!

I never thought I would see the day that a former nude model with ties to Sean Hannity, working for a crap radio station, could take down Sen. Al Franken with a benign/unvetted story which is directly contradicted by voluminous photo evidence #BizzaroWorldhttps://t.co/TqITbazo8Q

— John Ziegler (@Zigmanfreud) December 7, 2017

Wow! Al Franken has shown Roy Moore and Donald Trump that it really is possible to step down from politics because of sexual misconduct while remaining bitter, resentful and never admitting guilt or apologizing!

— Nicole Silverberg (@nsilverberg) December 7, 2017

not a single conservative is allowed to talk abt al franken before they start cleaning house themselves starting with roy moore n ending with the motherfuckin president

sidenote: its good that franken resigned.

— Hasan Piker (@hasanthehun) December 7, 2017

It’s true: if Al Franken should resign, so should Donald Trump. But the fact that Trump won’t resign doesn’t mean Franken shouldn’t. Democrats holding themselves to higher standards is a step towards everyone being held to higher standards. It doesn’t happen all at once.

Al Franken has announced his resignation. Good. It was the right decision.

Now, I need every Democrat in the Senate and House to demand the resignation or impeachment of Donald Trump. Immediately.

Al Franken: "As I'm resigning, a man sits in the Oval Office accused of sexual assault and a man who preys on young women is running for Senate."

Roy Moore and Donald Trump must go.

I once thought Al Franken would make a great president but I appreciate him stepping down and apologizing.

That Al Franken speech was a doozy. He is one angry man. And full of denials!

Now That Al Franken Is Gone, Democrats Need to Hold Hearings on Trump via @thenation https://t.co/CmP8wJHjss

Just a note on family values:
Democrats Al Franken and Conyers are resigning.
A Republican pedophile not only remains a candidate, but has support and $$$ from the RNC (ergo Republican voters).
A Republican serial predator who bragged “grab them by the pussy” remains in the WH.

— Amy Siskind (@Amy_Siskind) December 7, 2017

Trump brags about grabbing women by the pussy.
Roy Moore molests 14 year -old girls while a district attorney.
So naturally...
Al Franken resigns.
My 2017 in a nutshell.

— Bryan Behar (@bryanbehar) December 7, 2017

To be clear:
Al Franken is resigning.

Roy Moore and Donald trump are not resigning.

What...30 plus accusers between the two of them? Reading you loud and clear, GOP.

— steven pasquale (@StevePasquale) December 7, 2017

Frankel has acted inappropriately.

Pedophile Roy Moore assaulted teenage girls.

Donald trump has multiple accusers claiming he raped them, but dropped their law suits fearing for their lives.

For those who have asked. I haven't talked about Al Franken, Because I don't really care about Al Franken.
